AAR enables users to review their H- VH interaction, evaluate their actions, and receive feedback on how to improve future real-world, H-H experiences. To improve training, the users of H-VH experiences need to review, evaluate, and get feedback on them. H-VH experiences are seeing increased use in training for real-world, H-H experiences. This paper proposes after-action review (AAR) with human-virtual human (H-VH) experiences. In addition, the NPC model contains an emotional model that maps emotional states to underlying trainee actions and dialog in order to measure cultural rule violations. Through the use of a canonical cognitive model of NPC behaviors and the utilization of a generic scripting language, cultural rules are encoded and mapped to scenario-specific NPC dialog and behaviors in order to provide a set of virtual NPCs with which the VECTOR trainee can interact. An initial result of this effort is a virtual training environment incorporating cognitive-model-controlled non-player characters (NPCs). VECTOR initially focuses on the Kurdish culture in Irag. The virtual environment cultural training for operational readiness (VECTOR) program is a Department of Defense SBIR (small business innovative research) effort to provide new technology for training in cultural familiarization through the application of highly experiential, scenario-based training in virtual environments that can be used to develop specific skills for interacting with members of a culture of interest.
